Yes, that does say "popcorn and shaving cream" and yes I am thankful for those two seemingly random items! Let me explain...
Being a mommy can be hard. Some days its just rough. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE being a mommy but it isn't always easy. Today was one of those days. For some reason I had 2 irritable children on my hands and I wasn't feeling well at all. My back has been giving me a fit lately and I was really tired. On top of that, I felt like all I did today was break up little arguments and clean up little messes. If you're a mom you know what I'm talking about.
I've also been trying to get ready for a yard sale we are having this Saturday. So I popped the boys some popcorn and tried to get some things done while they ate their snack. I'm not sure why but they ate in complete peace and they were also laughing hysterically together. It was such a precious break from the whining and screaming! While they were content I started sorting through the bathroom closet and I came across a bottle of shaving cream. A light bulb went off in my mind immediately! I used to use shaving cream in my Kindergarten class as a fun activity for the kids. They would play with it and write words, numbers, etc. If my kindergartners could do it, so can my boys! Since it was a beautiful afternoon we went outside after their snack and they played in shaving cream. It was a very calm, happy, easy-going 30 minutes, or so. They loved it and so did I!

Today I am thankful for popcorn and shaving cream. These two things were just what we needed today! As I was watching the boys get shaving cream all of their faces and hair, I thought back to a conversation I had earlier today with my friend, Jane. We discussed staying focused on who God is and how God has blessed us right now instead of worrying about tomorrow or trying to plan out the details of life. In those moments, with the help of popcorn and shaving cream, I felt so blessed. Yes, the day was loud and crazy but in those moments, all was well. We had everything we needed. Everyone was safe. Everyone was healthy. In those moments, God allowed me to take in how lovely the day was and how precious my boys are. In those moments, I was incredibly grateful for those moments (and for popcorn and shaving cream!)
