Every good thing...
Have you heard the song, "Every good thing" by the Afters? Its one of those songs that gets easily stuck in my head. I love the chorus. It says, "You're the reason for every good thing, every heart beat, every day we get to breathe. You're the reason for anything that lasts, every every second chance, every laugh, life so sweet. You're the reason for every good thing, every good thing."
So since I've been humming this song for weeks now, I've been more aware of the simple things of life that I usually take for granted. I mean how often do we truly appreciate the sound of a child's laughter or the smell of a hot cup of coffee? How about the beauty of wild flowers or the feeling of seeing a good friend?
Today, I have been keeping a mental post-it note of little things that I have experienced throughout the day that I am grateful for. So, here it goes....
-Waking up to the sound of Dylan's sweet voice saying, "good morning Mommy."
-Spending a few minutes of quiet time in prayer with my Lord.
-Taking a warm shower without any little children running in and out of the bathroom.
-Listening to Evan singing in his crib and sneaking in his room to get "good morning kisses."
-Walking out my back door to pick some gorgeous Daylilies that are blooming in our garden.
-Feeling the wind blow through my hair while driving.
-Spending the morning at the park with friends.
-Hearing my five year old read a book to his little brother.
-Laughing with Dylan.
-Stealing a quick kiss from my husband when he arrived home from work.
-Playing outside with my boys.
-Watching Dylan and Evan imitate their daddy doing yard work.
-Having a nice, quiet dinner with my family.
-Getting a text from a really good friend.
-Watching my husband play with his sons.
-Enjoying a cold diet coke.
-Reading the story of Jonah and listening Dylan recite God's word.
-Watching my littlest guy run around in an adorable pajamas with monsters all over them.
-Witnessing Dylan play with "pop-its" for the first time.
-Listening to Dylan's sweet little voice as he prayed and knowing that God hears every word.
-Doing "secret sign language" with Dylan and hearing him call me the "best Mommy ever!"
-Sitting on the couch with the love of my life, a wonderful ending to a simple yet lovely day.
God, You are the giver of every good thing. (James 1:7) So for all of these simple things and all the big blessings of my life, thank YOU Father. You truly reward those who earnestly seek You. (Hebrews 11:6)
