Completely Blessed

It's hard to see what my new Alex and Ani bracelet says in the photo above but it was the perfect gift from my husband today! It says, "Completely Blessed!" That is the way I feel on today, on my 32nd birthday! I would have loved for Allison to have joined us today to help me celebrate my birthday but I guess she wants a birthday of her own! Giving birth to my baby girl is the only thing that could have made today better. I enjoyed my day with my boys so much. We spent the morning strolling through the farmer's market and the Botanical Gardens. We had our favorite cheese fries for lunch and had yummy gourmet cupcakes this evening. The boys were so sweet. They've been hugging me and telling me "Happy Birthday" all day long.

As I was outside watching the boys play tonight, feeling the breeze in my hair, I couldn't help but thank my Heavenly Father for the many amazing blessings He has given me in the past 32 years. I am truly, completely blessed. Once this little lady arrives, I will honestly have everything I've ever dreamed of and so much more! How can I possibly say "Thank You" for all that God has done?

Today I am thankful for another birthday, another day to celebrate the life that God has given me. He has changed me and molded me into a completely different person than I was ten years ago and although I'm in no way perfect, I am grateful for the work He has done in my life. I am also grateful for my family. They always make me feel so special on my birthday! Bryan and the boys made today wonderful! Some people dread growing older but when I look at my life and how completely blessed I am, I look forward to the future, to watching my family grow together and to seeing all that God has in store for us.

 Would you believe me if I told you that life with 3 boys is wild??  You probably would, huh? I'm telling you, just an average Wednesday night in the Shaw household is full of all sorts of craziness! I did hear a first tonight though!  Bryan was wrestling with the boys and suddenly Dylan starts yelling "Please don't give me a wedgie!" Psalm 84: 11-12

For the  Lord   God is a sun   and shield;      the  Lord  bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold      from those whose walk is blameless.  Lord  Almighty, blessed  is  the one who trusts in you Psalm 84: 11-12 I've been pondering Psalm 84:11-12 for a couple of weeks now. It has become one of my favorite verses. After really digging into this verse on my own and in Bible study this morning, I feel like God speaks volumes through these 38 simple words.  God is a sun and a shield. Like the sun, God provides for us, nourishes us, and is always present. The sun provides hope with each new day, just as God gives hope in even the worst situation. Like a shield, God protects us and gives us security. We can hide behind Him and feel safe. But, a shield does no good just laying near by. It only protects when picked up and used appropriately. Beauty from Ashes

I have heard the term "beauty from ashes" a thousand times in the past week. It wasn't the first time I 've heard the term but I've always just brushed it off. Since I've heard it so much lately, I decided to pay it some attention.  So here we go... The Bible says in Isaiah that God will give us beauty instead of ashes. In Biblical times it was the custom for people in great times of mourning and difficulty to lay down in ashes. Just imagine this...you’ve got a big problem in your life so you just lay down in a pile of dirty ashes. There is absolutely nothing beautiful about this scenario. So where does the beauty come from? Can ashes really be turned into something beautiful?   Scripture says that God is able to take the situation that burdens you or causes you pain and turn it into beauty.
