Do you smell with your feet?
One of my favorite things about our Christian based homeschool curriculum, "My Father's World" is that its emphasis is all about learning God's Story. This year we will be writing in a Bible notebook, reading Bible leveled readers, learning about many of God's creations, and studying HIStory. Each day we begin our school time by reading a devotional or studying a Proverb. The devotionals come from a book that came with our curriculum called My Big Book of 5-minute Devotions: Celebrating God's World. It is an adorable book that uses short stories about animals and insects to share truths from God's Word. It also has questions to discuss with children and Bible verses to go along with each story. So far, Dylan has really enjoyed these devotions. He even asks to read more than one per day!
Today we read a short story about ladybugs. We learned that ladybugs have strange ways of doing things. They taste with their antennae and they smell with their feet! When we were done reading that information I looked over at Dylan and asked, "Do you smell with your feet?" He adamantly said, "sometimes I do!" I think he was saying that his feet are stinky from time to time but I thought it was hilarious.
The rest of the devotion discussed how God created all people different as well. Not everyone likes the same things or does things the same way and we often think others are wrong if they aren't just like us. But God wants us to embrace our differences and love one another. God doesn't want us to criticize one another or make fun of each other. Talking about others in a negative way or judging them, even if they aren't doing what we think is right, is not okay in God's eyes. We need to love each other, no matter what, just as Christ loves us.
Today I am thankful for this sweet book of devotions. Dylan and I are both enjoying reading and discussing these truths from God's Word. I am also grateful that God made all of us so unique. If we were all alike, this world would be a very boring place! Yes, sometimes other people do things that we don't like but we need try to remember how valuable they are to their Maker and accept them the way we are. It isn't always easy but that is just another reason we need Jesus' help on a day to day basis! And hey, until your neighbor or friend starts smelling with their feet, they aren't that much different from you!
