Good Friday Prayer Jars

Today the kids and I made prayer jars. I decided today would the perfect day to make these because its Good Friday, which means we intentionally remember all that Jesus went through when He willingly gave up His life.

Mark 15:37-39 says, "With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.  And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!” The relevance of the curtain (or veil) is worth noting. In the Old Testament, the veil separated the Holy of Holies in the temple. This was the location of the Spirit of God which rested on the Ark of the Covenant. Only the high priest was allowed to enter, and speak with God.

When Jesus died on the cross, and the veil was torn, it signified that there was no longer any separation between all human beings and God. Because the curtain was torn, we each have full access to the Spirit of God. We can all communicate personally with Him as often as we want. He wants us to open up to Him and share our hearts with Him. He is never too busy to listen and never rushes us when we pray.

So, today we made these prayer jars to help the kids keep track of all the people and things they want to pray for, so that they can pray with intention. We all enjoyed decorating the jars and creating our prayer sticks.

Today I am grateful for a fun afternoon making prayer jars, followed by a Good Friday Nature Walk. I enjoyed talking with the kids about how amazing it is that we have access to the God of the Universe. We can talk with Him any time we want because of what Jesus did for us. I also loved walking through the green way, discussing the story of the Crucifixion and helping the kids find things in nature that tied into the story. We all had a wonderful time together, remembering what Jesus has done for us.

Thank you, Jesus!
